Eco-footwear concept design and learning
A project for Last to identify the likely environmental impacts of their footwear and develop concepts to help reduce or eliminate the negative impacts. The process involved Lifecycle Thinking to establish impacts across the entire lifecycle of their shoes, from materials extraction to disposal, as well as brainstorming with leading thinkers in both sustainable design and product innovation.
Concepts were produced that related key sustainability strategies to footwear. Concepts included shoes designed for modularity, composting and disassembly. Also an innovative shoe rental business model was developed.
